The Facts
Our war on drugs is an absolute failure. Our nearly century-long experiment in banning marijuana has failed as abysmally as prohibition. These are the facts:
-
It squanders billions of dollars that would be better spend on education. Some states spend more on their prison industry than they do on education.
-
It creates a black market for a product the US is clamoring for. We send our money and guns south to Mexico and beyond and they send us marijuana. Stop the need for a black market.
-
All industrialized countries of the world except the US have industrial hemp which creates jobs in several industries.
The Answer
Create a government run system for growing, selling, and taxing marijuana. This would create revenue estimated to be as high as 16 billion dollars the first year. It's time we stop this charade and implement sensible laws that tax and regulate marijuana the same as we do with alcohol and tobacco.
